Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

WEB 1984 is a privacy-first search engine. This policy explains what we collect, what we deliberately never collect, and the control you have over your information. The short version: we don't track you, we don't build profiles, and we don't sell data.

What we collect

  • Search queries — processed to return results. We do not tie queries to your identity for advertising, and we do not retain query logs linked to accounts beyond what's needed for abuse prevention.
  • Account information — if you create an account: your email, display name, account type, and password hash. That's it.
  • Operational data — rate-limiting counters and security logs used to keep the service running and block abuse. These are aggregated and expire automatically.

What we never collect

  • No third-party tracking cookies or pixels.
  • No browser fingerprinting.
  • No cross-site behavioral profiles.
  • No sale of personal data to data brokers, advertisers, or anyone else.

Cookies

We use a single strictly-necessary session cookie to keep you signed in, and a local theme preference stored in your own browser. No advertising or analytics cookies — there is nothing to opt out of because there is nothing to opt out from.

Advertising

Sponsored results are contextual — matched to your query, not to you. An advertiser can bid on a keyword; they cannot bid on a person, because we have no personal profiles to sell access to.

Your rights

You can access, correct, or delete your account data at any time from your account settings, or by contacting support. Deleting your account removes your profile, panels you own are released back to the review queue, and your data is purged from active systems.
