About WEB 1984

The search engine that puts you first

WEB 1984 started with a simple observation: the big search engines stopped serving searchers a long time ago. They serve advertisers. Every query you type becomes a data point in a profile that is sold, shared, and used to keep you scrolling. We think that's backwards.

WEB 1984 is built the other way around. You are the customer — not the product. We don't track you across the web, we don't build advertising profiles, and we don't sell your data. Search is a utility, like clean water: it should just work, and it should never work against you.

What makes us different

  • No tracking. We don't use third-party cookies, fingerprinting, or cross-site identifiers. Your search history is not a product we sell.
  • Transparent knowledge panels. Public figures, artists, athletes, and businesses get panels that are source-cited, reviewable, and owned by the people they describe — claimed and verified in the open.
  • Honest advertising. Sponsored results are always labeled in gold. You will never mistake a paid placement for an organic result.
  • Safe by default. SafeSearch is on for everyone, filtering explicit content without judging what you look for.

How we make money

We're not a charity and we're not shy about saying so. WEB 1984 earns revenue from clearly labeled sponsored placements and advertising products for businesses — never from selling your data, because your data is not for sale. When money changes hands on this platform, you'll always be able to see exactly how and why.

The name

1984 is the year the world was warned about. We picked the name as a promise: the surveillance dystopia doesn't have to win. A search engine can be powerful without being predatory — and we're here to prove it, one query at a time.
