A daylight shooting on Chicago’s Southwest Side left a 26-year-old man dead and another man seriously wounded after several gunmen allegedly approached a van and opened fire Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3:51 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, in the 3800 block of South Western Boulevard, near Pershing Road. Chicago police said two men, ages 26 and 56, were sitting inside a Ford van when several people arrived in a Honda.
According to police, several people got out of the Honda, approached the van and opened fire on the two men before fleeing the area.
The younger victim was struck multiple times in the torso. Emergency responders transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities subsequently identified the man as Quincy Lamont Faulkner, 26. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity Thursday.
The second victim, a 56-year-old man, was also struck by gunfire. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment. Police initially described his condition as serious, while another report based on police information described him as being in critical condition.
Gunmen Fled After Attack
Investigators believe multiple people were involved in the shooting.
Police said the assailants were traveling in a Honda and that several occupants exited the vehicle before confronting the men inside the van. The attackers then produced firearms and fired multiple rounds before returning to their vehicle and escaping.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced what may have led to the shooting.
Police also have not disclosed whether investigators believe the victims knew the attackers, whether the van was specifically targeted, or whether another confrontation occurred before the gunfire.
As of the latest available information, no arrests had been announced.
Detectives Investigating

Investigators are expected to examine evidence from the shooting scene as they work to determine the sequence of events and identify everyone involved. Police have not announced whether a weapon has been recovered or whether the Honda believed to have been used by the attackers has been located.
The shooting happened during the afternoon along a heavily traveled section of Western Boulevard, making the circumstances surrounding the attack particularly concerning as detectives attempt to determine how the gunmen approached and escaped.
Despite the public location and time of day, authorities had not released detailed descriptions of the suspected shooters as of Thursday night.
Victim Identified
The death of Quincy Lamont Faulkner turned what was initially reported as a double shooting into a homicide investigation.
Faulkner was only 26 years old.
Police have released few additional details about him or the older man who survived the attack. Authorities also have not publicly discussed whether either victim was working or conducting business from the Ford van when the shooting occurred.
What investigators have established publicly is that both men were together inside the vehicle shortly before several people exited another vehicle and fired at them.
The circumstances leading up to those moments remain under investigation.

Detectives are now tasked with determining who carried out the shooting, why the two men were targeted and whether additional people played a role.
The fact that several people allegedly exited the Honda before shots were fired could make identifying every person involved an important part of the investigation. Police have not said how many shooters there were, only that several people approached the victims before the gunfire.
No criminal charges had been announced as of the latest update.
